
Houston, TX – The Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston presents an evening of local pre- professional dance groups featuringDance of Asian America, Houston Ballet Academy, Urban Souls Dance Company2and Inertiaon Saturday, February 1 at 8:00 p.m. as part of Dance Month at the Kaplan Theatre.
Dance of Asian America, under the direction of Artistic Director and Choreographer Janie Yao, is dedicated to promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of China through authentic and contemporary Chinese dance. Houston Ballet Academy,under the direction ofShelly Power, has provided the highest quality ballet training for students. The Academy has trained over 55% of the professional company’s dancers. Urban Souls Dance Company 2,directed by Leonard Price, is an artist development program for young aspiring artists. This program focuses on humanity and is designed to cultivate confidence, artistry, self-awareness, and technical ability. Inertiais the elite performing ensemble representing the Westside Dance Program at Westside High School. Sharon Roberts and Joel Rivera co-direct this nationally recognized group with over 30 national titles from competitions and performances in New York City, Chicago and New Orleans. Each company will present two pieces in the evening’s program.
Dance concerts take place in the Kaplan Theatre, IW Marks Theatre Center, The Gerald Rauch Cultural and Performing Arts wing of the ERJCC.
