MIND THE GAP

Now in the program’s 8th year, Mind The Gap is a performance platform that showcases work by DSH members from all dance genres. Creating performance opportunities for local dancemakers, Mind The Gap provides participants with support in production planning and management. The program, a collaboration between Dance Source Houston and Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston, is designed to support artists who seek additional support and guidance to improve their production skills. Mind The Gap is intended to serve choreographers at all career stages and at all points of in the development of a work.

Eligibility
  • Choreographer(s) must be 18 or older and based in the Greater Houston region, as defined by Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, Walker, and Waller counties.
  • *Cast members must be 18 year or older.Â
  • Proposals from all dance genres are encouraged.
  • Choreographers may participate in only 1 Mind The Gap performance during the season.Â
  • Applicants must maintain a currentDSH membership from the time of application through performance.Â

*Intergenerational casts consisting for members above and below the age of 18 will be considered. Please contact us atdanceinfo@dancesourcehouston.org with more information on your proposed work and cast.

  • Works must be 5-15 minutes in length and may be from any genre or style.
  • Applicants may submit a work in progress, new work, or a previously shown work.
  • Each choreographer must submit a $75 production fee.
  • Attendance at in-person initial and final production meetings at MATCH.
  • Maintain production, marketing, and administrative deadlines throughout the program.
  • Participants receive production, marketing, and audience development support from DSH & MATCH.
  • Ticketed income is shared evenly between all choreographers.
  • Choreographers receive a wide-angle video of their work for archival documentation and can purchase professional photos at a subsidized rate.
  • Opportunity to present work in Matchbox 2 alongside 5 fellow dancemakers.

Dance Source Houston is an arts service nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the local dance community. We offer a range of programs and services that address the needs of dance artists and organizations, including funding, health service access, marketing support, performance opportunities, professional development, and more.
Dance Source Houston memberships are open to individuals and organizations working in the Greater Houston region dance ecosystem. Memberships are open to dancers, choreographers, educators, administrators, companies, presenters, studios, and more.Â
No! Many of our programs and services are open to all, regardless of membership status. A limited number of our programs do require membership, including Artists In Residence and Mind The Gap.
Dance advocates are an important part of the community! You can lend your support by being an active dance audience member and attending performances around town regularly. You can also make a difference by making a tax deductible contribution to Dance Source Houston and other nonprofit dance organizations.Â
